What is malignant melanoma

Melanoma can be a serious disease in which cancer cells form in the skin. However, it does not always form in the skin.   These are known as  melanocytes (cells that colour the skin). Melanocytes make melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour.  They also form moles and it is known that having moles is a risk factor in melanoma.
